CM credit hours for mobile workshops are awarded based on the planned dedicated instructional time. Adjustments to CM hours will not be made after the live event.

Policies, funding, operational capacity, and varying levels of community engagement are challenges that impede the progress of Detroit's journey to food sovereignty. To overcome this, government at various levels must align with community expectations and goals through collaboration and engagement. This tour elevates methods for achieving this through the voices of Detroit's urban agriculture community.

It showcases planning- and community-based approaches to achieving food sovereignty through government-community collaboration, food recovery, urban agriculture, nature-based interventions, arts, and culture. These approaches - led by innovative food sovereign leaders and residents - address issues surrounding racial and environmental justice, sustainability, and the environment.

Learning Objectives:

  • Better understand innovative community-based methods for creating environmentally conscious neighborhoods and refer to these methods in future work.
  • Visualize — in real time — how all "specialty areas" within the food system work together to create a "closed loop" system for all.
  • Implement mechanisms for achieving a more sustainable future based on 15 years of work in food sustainability, government-community partnership, and urban agriculture.
