Monica G. Tibbits-Nutt, AICP recently concluded her tenure as Secretary of Transportation and CEO of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, where she led a workforce of more than 12,000 employees across the Highway Division, Rail and Transit, Registry of Motor Vehicles, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, and Aeronautics. In this role, she also served on the Boards of Directors for the Massachusetts Port Authority, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, and the Northeast Corridor Commission.
Appointed by Governor Maura Healey, Tibbits-Nutt previously served as Undersecretary of Transportation, where she established the Commonwealth’s first Office of Transportation and Climate Planning and Policy.
Earlier in her career, she served on the MassDOT Board of Directors and as Vice Chair of the MBTA Fiscal and Management Control Board, providing nationally recognized oversight during a period of fiscal and operational reform. She also led the 128 Business Council, advancing cooperative transit services in the Route 128 corridor.
A certified planner and sustainability professional, Tibbits-Nutt is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners and a LEED Accredited Professional. She remains active in national transportation and civic leadership initiatives focused on equity, access, and innovation.
