Dr. Rory Bolger is in his fortieth year of service at Detroit’s City Planning Commission where he was project manager for the first major revision of the city’s Zoning Ordinance since 1968 and has been principal researcher and drafter of more than two dozen text amendments, including the 2012 school building adaptive re-use ordinance. His rural community development service in the Peace Corps led him to pursue a doctorate in applied Anthropology with a focus on a Detroit neighborhood impacted by the boom and bust cycle of the auto industry. Until Detroit’s municipal bankruptcy, Bolger served as deputy director of the Planning Commission and in recent years he is focusing on mentoring new planners and on cataloguing and monitoring the 403 Planned Unit Developments in the city. He was inducted into the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Certified Planners with the class of 2020.
