Syed Riad Morshed is a Graduate Research Assistant in the Department of Community and Regional Planning at Alabama A&M University and an urban and environmental planning researcher specializing in GIS, remote sensing, and machine learning–driven spatial analytics. He holds a master’s in urban and Regional Planning (CGPA 4.00/4.00) from Alabama A&M University and a master’s in environmental science and management, with a strong interdisciplinary foundation in climate analytics, environmental modeling, and sustainable urban systems.
His research focuses on urban climate resilience, environmental risk assessment, land use modeling, and data-driven planning. He has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in leading journals, including Environmental Pollution, Journal of Environmental Management, Ecological Indicators, Remote Sensing Applications: Society and Environment, and Transportation Engineering. His work integrates geospatial intelligence, LiDAR processing, and machine learning to address challenges such as heat vulnerability, air pollution variability, ecosystem service valuation, and land-use change.
At Alabama A&M University, he develops automated GIS data pipelines and conducts spatial analysis to support evidence-based urban planning. He is a Student Member of the American Planning Association (APA), and a member of the International Association for Urban Climate (IAUC) and the Bangladesh Institute of Planners.
