Marisa Raya is a Lecturer in Planning at Stanford University, a former Regional Planner and Economic Development Specialist in the San Francisco Bay Area, and an Advisor to the California Strategic Growth Council's Agricultural Land Equity Task Force. As a PhD Candidate in Geography at the University of California-Davis, her research aims to advance the planning and policymaking process around reparations, healing, and reparative planning, using California statewide public engagement as input. She studies land relations and has a Designated Emphasis in both Native American and African American Studies. Her interests include community autonomy, land relations, oral history and public engagement, land markets, small business development and economic, environmental, and cultural stewardship. She is a career public servant, authored the City of Oakland's 2018-2020 Economic Development Strategy, and co-developed the Bay Area's first long-range Sustainable Communities Strategy, Plan Bay Area 2013. Marisa has a Masters in Spatial Planning from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden and a BA cum laude from Columbia University.
