Tyler Hinkle, AICP is a Senior Planner with EPR, PC in Charlottesville, Virginia and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Virginia. Raised in Shenandoah County, he served nearly six years as the County Planner, helping guide the community’s future through the comprehensive plan Shenandoah 2045: A Future Together. Through that experience and subsequent implementation efforts, he saw how planning shaped by community input can lead to meaningful and lasting outcomes.
Now at EPR, Tyler works with towns, counties, and regions across Virginia and the nation to develop comprehensive plans, refine zoning and development regulations, and support community investment strategies. His work includes direct collaboration with local governments as well as service as an on-call consultant supporting federal and state initiatives including Recreation Economy for Rural Communities and Local Foods, Local Places.
At the University of Virginia, Tyler teaches Rural Planning and Economic Development through the School of Architecture and the Batten School of Public Policy, helping students examine the connections between urban and rural communities.
Outside of work, he enjoys biking, hiking, reading, gardening, photography, and spending time with his fiancée and their cats, usually with a cup of coffee or tea nearby.
