Alan Simpson, AICP, is a Senior Planner at EPR, P.C., where he facilitates meaningful public engagement, produces data-driven insights through GIS analysis, and delivers solutions to address complex planning challenges. With expertise in comprehensive plan updates, hazard mitigation strategies, and community revitalization initiatives, he collaborates with stakeholders to develop actionable plans that enhance mobility, quality of life, and community character. He is also interested in developing methods for the ethical use of AI in planning to support transparent, equitable decision-making, strengthen community engagement, protect privacy, and reduce bias.
Alan also serves as Research Manager for VCU’s Land Use Education Program and Chair of APA Virginia’s Community Planning Assistance Program (CPAP). A graduate of the University of Virginia’s School of Architecture, Alan holds both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Urban and Environmental Planning, earned with distinction.
