Sam Starr-Baum, AICP, has worked as a planner for the City of Asheville since 2021. His current responsibilities as an Urban Planner III include, but are not limited to: the review of land use and development applications, drafting and amending local regulations, providing staff support to the Planning Board and other local Boards/Commissions, and performing complex geospatial analysis of development trends and patterns. Sam holds a Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Colorado–Denver and a Bachelor’s in Political Science from Colorado State University. Outside of his professional work, he enjoys hiking and traveling with his wife, Katy, and great dane, Lola.
