Tara Tolford holds a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of New Orleans, with a dual specialization in transportation planning and land use. She has been involved with the UNO Transportation Institute since 2009, and is currently responsible for leading all active transportation and transit programs and research activities, as well as cross-disciplinary research and advocacy with partners in the fields of public health, recreation, and environmental science. This has included managing applied research projects focusing on active transportation policy, data collection, strategic planning, health equity, and evaluation for state, regional, local, and philanthropic partners. Past research has included demand analysis for regional rail, development of planning course curricula, complete streets policy development and implementation, international knowledge-sharing projects, and development of smart growth, growth management, and Transit-Oriented Development tools. In addition, she is an instructor for the Master of Science in Transportation program. Tara is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and an NGICP-certified Green Infrastructure Practitioner (GIP), appointee to the Louisiana DOTD Complete Streets Advisory Council, chair of the Ride New Orleans Policy Committee, and a consultant at the intersection of health, transportation, and climate mitigation and adaptation.
