Madeleine Krol is a Clean Energy Land Use Specialist with the University of Michigan’s Center for EmPowering Communities. She partners with local governments on zoning, ordinances, and practical guidance to help navigate renewable energy and energy storage siting and planning challenges across Michigan. Her work includes developing technical assistance programming for Michigan’s State Energy Office through the Renewable Energy Academy and supporting Michigan’s R-STEP program. She also studies the adoption of solar ordinances in the Great Lakes region and what large-scale solar development might mean for farmland pressures in rural America. Madeleine joined U-M in 2022 with experience managing local government energy and sustainability initiatives and holds master’s and bachelor’s degrees in spatial planning from TU Dortmund University in Germany.
