Layla Aslani is an Acting Assistant Planning Director for the City of Grand Rapids Planning Department. In this role, she focuses on long-range planning and recently completed a multi-year effort to create a new Community Master Plan. She is now working on updating the City’s Zoning Ordinance based on this Plan. Layla is active in the Michigan Association of Planning and serves on the statewide conference planning committee. Prior to joining the City in 2014, Layla worked in the private sector and as a print journalist. Layla holds a bachelor’s in communication studies and a master’s in urban planning, both from the University of Michigan. Originally from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Layla lives on Grand Rapids’ Westside with her husband and spends her free time exploring West Michigan and beyond, usually with a foster golden retriever.
