With roots in Texas and Michigan, Stephanie Peña, AICP has a Bachelor’s in Political Science from the University of Michigan where she focused her studies on race, politics and the built environment. Stephanie has experience in higher education supportive services, migrant farmworker education, and affordable housing supportive services. With interests at the nexus of education and affordable housing Stephanie chose to pursue her Master’s of City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. As a City Planning student, Stephanie took advantage of opportunities to delve into real estate finance and project delivery to further build a foundation of development that can benefit marginalized communities. Her passion for empowering people through greater access to resources and building inclusive community spaces has moved her to pursue opportunities at the intersection of urban planning and real estate development following graduation. Currently, Stephanie works as a Senior Community Planner at the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, working with municipalities to garner greater reinvestment in place. Adjacent to her work, Stephanie sits on her local Michigan Main Street Board and is an active member of the American Planning Association and Urban Land Institute.
