Aaron Goodman is an urban planner with over 20 years of experience in community development, environmental advocacy, and resident engagement. Since 2019 he has served the City of Detroit Planning and Development Department as the manager of Detroit’s Community Benefits Ordinance process. In this role, Aaron brings together the community and developers while guiding some of Detroit’s most significant development projects through the engagement, benefits negotiation, and approval process. Previously, he was the Community Engagement Director for Community Development Advocates of Detroit (CDAD) and also served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the West African countries of Mauritania and Senegal. Aaron has received several honors recognizing leadership including a Spirit of Detroit award and completing the Detroit Revitalization Fellowship. He earned a bachelor’s degree in social sciences and a master’s degree in urban planning from the University of Michigan. Aaron is a life-long Michigander, proud Detroit resident, and a committed advocate for community centered development that builds a more vibrant, equitable, and healthy Detroit. In his spare time Aaron can be found volunteering with his block club, exploring our wonderful parks and natural areas, listening to great music, and enjoying all that our amazing city has to offer.
