Insoo Kim, Urban Planning Engineer, is a GIS Teaching Assistant at Arizona State University, School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning. He studies equity focused disaster resilience, with an emphasis on how access to shelters and other critical services varies across places and populations. His work combines GIS based network analysis and statistical modeling to translate spatial evidence into planning and policy insights. He served on South Korea’s Ministry of the Interior and Safety 2030 Advisory Group and received a Ministerial Award for policy recommendations to strengthen emergency alerts and improve emergency shelter planning. He also supports research on flood risk using FEMA datasets and develops geospatial inputs from remote sensing and machine learning methods to advance data driven resilience planning.
