Weiping Wu has been Columbia’s Vice Provost for Academic Programs since September 2023, responsible for overseeing academic programs and educational partnerships, and for leading the University’s accreditation process. She also is Professor and Director of the M.S. Urban Planning program in the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at Columbia University, as well faculty of the Weatherhead East Asian Institute. Before joining Columbia in 2016, she was Professor and Chair in the Department of Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning at Tufts University. Trained in architecture and urban planning, she has focused her research and teaching on understanding urban dynamics in developing countries in general and China in particular. Currently, she is a member and former chair of the Planning Accreditation Board (PAB). In addition, she chairs the Social and Behavioral Sciences sub-panel of the Hong Kong Research Grants Council, and serves on the nomination committee for the Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize. Previous roles include the President of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning (ACSP) in 2017-2019 and an editor of the Journal of Planning Education and Research, ACSP’s flagship journal, in 2008-2012.She also is the editor-in-chief of the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Urban Studies.
