Ben Hitchings, FAICP, CZO, is the Principal of Green Heron Planning, LLC and a Fellow at the UNC School of Government. He has more than 30 years of experience working on planning issues, and has prepared award-winning plans and publications. A former Planning Director for the Town of Chapel Hill and the Town of Morrisville, N.C., Ben is a current member of the APA Board of Directors. He is co-author of Managing Disruption in a Rapidly-Changing World: A Briefing Book for Decision-Makers in North Carolina published by the UNC School of Government (2024), and "Implementation Project Assessment: A New Tool for Implementing Community Plans," PAS Memo No. 120 published by the American Planning Association (2024). In his consulting practice, he specializes in helping communities prepare for emerging issues, develop innovative plans and codes, and catalyze effective plan implementation.
