Johnathan Gates, AICP, is an urban planning professional and serves as Chair of the American Planning Association’s Student Representatives Council and National Board Executive Member. With a background in aviation, transportation, and destination-driven planning, his work focuses on advancing infrastructure systems that enhance mobility, access, and user experience at major gateways and public-serving environments.

As a national leader within APA, Johnathan is committed to expanding pathways into the planning profession and strengthening engagement among students and emerging professionals. He has led initiatives focused on mentorship, professional development, and organizational alignment, helping to connect future planners with meaningful leadership opportunities across APA and AICP.
