Bruce has nearly 40 years of experience in planning, economic development, and business management. His expertise includes business retention and recruitment, marketing, comprehensive planning, redevelopment, zoning and subdivision regulations, site planning, and tax increment financing. He has supported numerous development projects involving feasibility, financing, land assemblage, scheduling, and permitting.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Community and Regional Planning with an emphasis in economic development from Iowa State University and a master’s degree in Public Administration from Drake University. Bruce has completed several leadership development programs and has served as both a Planning Commissioner and City Councilman. He is a member of the American Planning Association (APA) and the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), serving as Nebraska APA Chapter President from 2016–2018 and began another term in 2026. He has also served on the AICP Candidate Recruitment Committee and the APA Foundation Scholarship Selection Committee, and is also certified as an Economic Development Finance Professional (EDFP).
Before joining the City of La Vista as Community Development Director, Bruce was Director of Planning and Building for Sarpy County, NE. His career also includes roles in economic development, planning, and private sector business management across multiple cities.
