Reality Bites: The Gen Z Edition

Every profession has a set of skills you can't test for that if you don't have (and are unwilling to develop), will make the work challenging, if not impossible. This session will attempt to bridge the gap between the skills and expectations of Planning school and the internal realities, budget constraints and competing priorities influencing Planning workplaces.

Reality bit Gen X hard and it's biting Gen Z in ways not fully appreciated or understood. The trendy organizational buzz word is "fit". While Gen X may have figured out what that meant while on the job, Gen Z wants to know what that means now; before spending years and thousands of dollars, and our profession owes it to them to be more honest about it.

By sharing real-life lessons learned, a multi-generational panel of Planners will air out the key unspoken skills necessary to effectively navigate Planning in "real life". The "old school" will help the "new school" find the keys to success by identifying the REAL skills new Planners need to focus on developing. Doing so will help the next generation map out their career path and feel confidently equipped to take on the complex planning problems of the future.
