Allison S. Joe, AICP works at the intersection of climate, economic, and racial justice, on the ground and in our government institutions. She is the Deputy Secretary for Equity & Workforce, the first person to serve this role, at the California State Transportation Agency.
Prior to her current role, Allison was a Senior Advisor to former Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg and members of the Sacramento City Council, leading efforts to create and implement equitable transportation, housing, youth, workforce, homelessness, and land use programs that center and directly benefit impacted communities. Allison was also appointed by Governor Jerry Brown as leadership to the California Strategic Growth Council and the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research, supporting the implementation of the groundbreaking California Climate Investments (CCI) program through focused investments on affordable housing, active transportation, transit, and land conservation resulting in more livable and vibrant communities.
Allison holds a Masters in Planning from the University of Southern California and a bachelor’s degree in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics from Claremont McKenna College. She most recently served on the Boards on APA California as the Vice President of Diversity and Equity and Mutual Housing California, and currently serves on the Board of Next City.
