Ashley Becnel has served the City of New Orleans for over ten years, advising the City in various roles on land use law and policy. Ashley has helped to craft the City's short-term rental laws since their first iteration in 2016. In her role as the Chief Zoning Official, Ashley oversaw the operation of the City's zoning administration, including the short-term rental administration, which gave her an inside view of the complexities of on-the-ground enforcement and licensing processes. She currently serves as Executive Counsel to the New Orleans City Council, where she provides legal advice on all matters to the City's legislative branch.
