Christopher Auffrey, PhD is Professor of Planning in the School of Planning, College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning at the University of Cincinnati. He teaches courses in healthy urban planning, planning theory and ethics, planning history and planning finance and budgeting. He served on the Board of Trustees of the Ohio Chapter of the American Planning Association. His current research focuses on understanding how demographic change impacts urban neighborhoods; and how good planning practices address health disparities and can create healthier neighborhoods.
Professor Auffrey has co-authored with Michael Maloney the fourth and fifth editions of the Social Areas of Cincinnati and is currently completing work with Michael Maloney, Jeff Dey and Peter Petronio on the sixth edition.
He also is a co-author of The Case for Cities (Routledge, 2024), with Vikas Mehta, Danilo Palazzo, Conrad Kickert, and Terry Grundy.
Professor Auffrey has professional planning experience working in Los Angeles at Barrio Planners and the San Pedro Revitalization Corporation and served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Paraguay.
