Michele Flournoy is an Urban Designer with the City of Detroit Planning and Development Department. As the department’s Greenways & Open Space Coordinator, she leads neighborhood planning alongside the City's Regional Greenways including the Joe Louis Greenway. She has 15 years of professional experience in architecture and community development. Prior to joining the City of Detroit in 2016, Michele worked as an architect in New York City focused on bringing design excellence principles to public and institutional projects. Her work at the J. Max Bond Center on Design for the Just City, including the research and publication of Mapping Legacy Cities, introduced her to Detroit and established her interest in how thoughtful design within the public realm can positively impact urban communities. She holds a Master of Architecture from The City College of New York and a Bachelors of Marketing from New York University.
