Tepfirah Hana Rushdan is the Director of Sustainability for the City of Detroit, where she leads efforts to create a more resilient, equitable, and sustainable city. Before joining local government, Tepfirah spent over 15 years rooted in Detroit’s community-driven environmental movement - organizing farmers, building land-based programs, and co-founding the Detroit Black Farmer Land Fund. Her work bridges grassroots action with citywide policy, centering food sovereignty, collective care, and environmental justice. She continues to serve on multiple boards, including Black to the Land Coalition and Feed ’Em Freedom Growers, reflecting her lifelong commitment to Detroit’s people and land.
